About the Workshop
Rock climbing is the sport or activity of climbing rock faces, especially with the help of ropes and special equipment. The aim is to reach an end point, or a summit, of a rock face or structure. This sport garners a lot of interest. But there is more to it than meets the eye!
Rock climbing is a sport that tests a climber’s strength, endurance, agility, and balance along with mental control. Once you know the technique you can practice it anywhere!
This workshop is aimed towards teaching its participants the basic techniques of rock climbing. The focus here will be to make the participants comfortable climbers and belayers so that they can be confident of going climbing after the course.
Led By – This Workshop will be run by NOLS Rock climbing instructor – Srivats Swamy and he will be supported by WBA team.
Safety
Safety is a very important part of anything we do at Wandering Boots.
- For this, we are committed to using the best possible equipment and gear for this workshop. We will be using all new ropes for additional safety.
- At least 1 expert will be a trained and certified Wilderness First Responder.
All our staff are capable of handling medical emergencies in the wilderness. - Participants to Expert ratio – 1:2
About Badami
Badami is located in the state of Karnataka, 150km North West of Hampi, and is home to some of the best sport climbing in India. It is perhaps the rock climbing hub of India.
Along with great weather, Badami offers a wide range of rock faces with a variety of different grades – from beginners to expert. Climbers can progress from one grade to another and reach the next level. Badami is a place that offers superb rock quality to climbers of all styles and abilities.
Day 1 : Arrive in Badami. Check into a hotel.
Gear allocation and introductions through the day.
Evening session (5 pm) - Climbing demo, Theory class on Rock climbing gear, Rock climbing Jargans, Introduction to gear , Climbing etiquettes, Introduction to Knots.
Day 2 : Wake up call at 5 am. Finish breakfast and reach the crag by 6.30 am.
Morning session (6.30am to 10am): Practical Belaying session
Belaying (supporting a climber through a rope) is perhaps the most important part of rock climbing. Every climber must first be a belayer. In this session, the participants will be taught principles of both lead and top rope belay.
Afternoon : Rest and recover
Evening Session (4pm to 7pm) : Top rope climbing
This is going to be your first climbing session. The participants will be introduced to basics of top rope climbing. The participants will also get to belay in this session.
Day 3 : Wake up call at 5 am. Finish breakfast and reach the crag by 6.30 am.
Morning session (6.30am to 10am): Top rope climbing
This session is all about enjoying your last day on the crag! This will be a perfect opportunity to get on pitches that you have admired in the past few days! Get on them with a smile and who knows, Send them too! :D
Afternoon: Debriefing and last lunch out together! The treat is on us! We should be done just in time to catch the overnight train to Mumbai/ Bangalore or elsewhere.

Yes, anyone with basic levels of fitness can join this workshop. One does not need prior climbing experience.
Yes, Preparation is a very import part of this course. Prepared individuals will be able to climb better. We will sending out a preparation chart for the course.
One can reach Badami by road or by rail. From the station one can get an auto till the main town for 150 INR.

– 60 days before the trip: we can process a complete refund minus minimum processing charges.
– Between 30-45 days before the trip: you will be refunded 50% of the trek fee.
– Within 30 days before the trek starts: No refund.
– If your spot is replaced in a full batch: we will process a complete refund after canceling minute operational charges. (For fixed departures only)
